Tis the season to be busy! Things are bustling here at R&B, between working with customers, following up on orders, problem-solving, strategizing for our yearly floor change, preparing for our big floor sample sale and then doing all of our own holiday shopping, cooking and family-ing — personally, I’m a little exhausted! We place a high value on work-life balance at R&B, which means that we are as engaged and present in our personal lives as we are when we’re at work. Awesome, yes, but it’s sometimes challenging to move between your two worlds — a gal could get whiplash from all that back-and-forth! Thankfully, we have a little ritual around here: the morning meeting. In the midst of all this holiday craziness, our meetings are a comforting constant.
These meetings, though not always in the morning, preceed each shift. Just 30-60 minutes, they cover a variety of topics and vary in scope, depth and tone. We might be participating in education — learning the ins and outs of custom window was a central theme throughout the summer, or we might be engaging in a more casual conversation — sharing experiences or giving feedback to our leadership team. We always go over sales for the previous day, goals for the current month and the day’s schedule, and regardless of whether they’re carefully orchestrated or more relaxed, the meetings are filled with chatter and laughter and the gentle clinking of coffee cups.
It’s such a small thing, but taking this time bridges the gap between our home and working-lives, and fosters among us a sense of community. By the time I’ve finished my coffee, I’ve eased back into the R&B rhythm and am ready to step onto the floor with my head in the game!
