I began my journey at Room & Board in August of 2012. I moved to Los Angeles the year prior from the South of France. However, I’m an Australian! It’s now been ten years since I’ve left Sydney.
Many people are intrigued as to why I moved to America and when I tell them that I won a Green Card in a lottery they do not believe me. Really, I did!
I discovered Room & Board when I drove past the Culver City showroom with my husband and child. Since I am an interior design addict, I asked him to park the car as soon as my eye caught the window display.
The moment I walked through the entrance I was stunned. The exceptional craftsmanship was obvious. The natural materials were gorgeous and the aesthetic matched my own. I walked back to the car and said, “One day I will work there!” and I went straight to the Careers section on the company website.
There were no positions available when I first looked, so I continued to check the website once a week until I found an opening. One finally did- a whole year later. I applied and I haven’t looked back since.
I was so excited to start my first design job. My career background is one in hospitality. I’ve worked in many beautiful hotels over the years. I’ve had a variety of roles catering to providing a phenomenal experience to hotel guests. However, I was always surrounded by impeccable interior design, which kept me inspired and close to what was my hobby at the time.
In addition to my role as a Design Associate, I have worked as a Customer Experience Liaison and manage our “Tell Us What You Think” customer feedback. I’ve also assisted with the training of new hires and am always looking for new challenges to keep me motivated. This is where the blogging comes in to play!
It’s so wonderful to be in an environment where my passion has become my career. I have met some fascinating people, worked on many amazing projects in California and have fulfilled my lifetime goal of living and working overseas.
